Mistake
- Denote the number whose digits are $n$ units by $R_n$.
- If $R_n$ is prime, then $3304 \times R_n$ is a Smith number.
- $3304$ is not the only effective multiplier in this construction, merely the smallest.
Correction
Smaller such numbers have been discovered since, for example, $1540$.
Research is ongoing.
For the second edition of this book, David Wells removed this statement.
