Linguistic Note on Baker's Dozen
The term baker's dozen arises from the medieval tradition in which a baker would occasionally slip an extra loaf of bread into a consignment of a dozen so as to make sure the batch was not underweight.
Hence it is used in general to mean $12$ plus an extra one.
