A device is an artefact designed for a specific task.
The term is usually found in the context of electronics, in which a number of devices are combined into a system.
Examples
Modulator
A modulator is a device which changes the properties of a transmitted wave in order to encode upon it the properties of a signal.
Transducer
A transducer is a device which converts energy or information from one form to another.
Microphone
A microphone is a transducer which converts acoustic energy into electrical energy in the form of an electric current.
