Definition:Perpendicular Distance between Point and Plane

Definition

Let $\SS$ be a plane surface.

Let $P$ be a point not on $\SS$.

Let a perpendicular be dropped from $P$ to $\SS$, intersecting $\SS$ at $A$.

The perpendicular distance from $P$ to $\SS$ is defined as being the length of the straight line segment $AP$.
