Source of Name
This entry was named for Hans Peter Jørgen Julius Thomsen.
Historical Note
When Julius Thomsen was trying to determine the structure of benzene, he considered the complete bipartite graph $K_{3, 3}$ as one of the possible options.
He was incorrect in this assumption, and he never did manage to work out benzene's structure, but his name became associated with the graph structure.
