Definition

The common point through which pass the copunctal half-lines describing a solid angle is known as the vertex of that solid angle.

Historical Note

While the term vertex (of a solid angle) is used throughout Euclid's The Elements, the concept is never formally defined there.

Linguistic Note

The plural of vertex is vertices.

The word vertex is Latin for peak, from which the irregular plural form.
