Does $\mathcal S$ have to be a semiring of sets? –Abcxyz (talk | contribs) 13:30, 23 March 2012 (EDT)

No, any set will do. This will make it a bit tricky to prove results for general pre-measures as conditions have to be imposed to ensure well-definedness. But a priori, no other conditions than that $\varnothing$ is contained in $\mathcal S$ are imposed. --Lord_Farin 13:38, 23 March 2012 (EDT)
