So what you do on encountering a discrepancy between what's defined and what's referred to is you add a comment either via a template or on the talk page and raise it as an issue.
We do not offer up an alternative definition when the things don't actually mean the same things.
As it is, what is needed is an "also defined as" and some words somewhere explaining that some sources lump the renaming mapping together with the inclusion mapping. And so on. --prime mover (talk) 06:30, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
- I backed off my edits to the master page when I realized more thought was required. However, there is still some work that needs to be done. Condition for Mapping from Quotient Set to be Well-Defined talks about necessary and sufficient conditions for a mapping with a certain property to exist, and also demonstrates that said mapping is unique. It also says that that mapping is the renaming mapping without any reference to the language of the definition of the renaming mapping. The definition of renaming mapping effectively imposes those conditions and then defines he renaming mapping based on equivalence class representatives, and then proves that mapping is well-defined. --Dfeuer (talk) 17:16, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
