  • Born: 19 November 1920 in Brighton, England
  • 1942: B.A. at Cambridge University
  • 1942: Worked on the British effort to build a nuclear bomb
  • 1944: Transferred to Los Alamos to merge with the Manhattan Project
  • 1945: Returned to UK to work in Atomic Energy Research Establishment
  • 1955: Took up position as Chairman of Physics at the University of South Carolina
  • 1962: Took a faculty position in the MIT Physics Department
  • Died: 3 February 2017 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
