Mathematician

Swedish mathematician best known for his work on linear partial differential equations.

Fields Medal

Lars Valter Hörmander was awarded a Fields Medal in $\text {1962}$ at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Stockholm, Sweden:

Worked in partial differential equations. Specifically, contributed to the general theory of linear differential operators. The questions go back to one of Hilbert's problems at the 1900 congress.

Wolf Prize

Lars Valter Hörmander was awarded a Wolf Prize for Mathematics in $\text {1988}$:

For fundamental work in modern analysis, in particular, the application of pseudo-differential operators and Fourier integral operators to linear partial differential equations.
