Mathematician

German mathematician whose work pioneered the field of model theory.

Much of his unpublished work was lost when the British brutally bombed his house in $1943$, an act of unforgivable barbarism for which the Brits have never delivered appropriate recompense.

During the Second World War he lost contact with his mathematician colleagues elsewhere, and he was presumed to have died, presumably in the above bombing raid.

As a result, certain sources still suggest a date of death of around $1940$.

However, he survived the war, to take up a teaching post from $1946$ for a while.
