Mistake
- Like his brothers [ Nicolaus Bernoulli ] made a false start. At the age of sixteen he took his doctor's degree in philosophy at the University of Basle, and at twenty earned the highest degree in law. He was first a professor of law at Berne before becoming one of the mathematical faculty at the Academy of St. Petersburg. At the time of his death he was so highly thought of that the Empress Catherine gave him a public funeral at state expense.
This in fact reflects the life and career of Nicolaus II Bernoulli (1695 – 1726), the nephew of Nicolaus Bernoulli and the son of Johann Bernoulli.
