Is the "m" lowercase in Line 2? I was never taught about it and just assumed it was since MS Word capitalizes it. --LegendoftheGoldenAges (talk) 18:31, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
- ROFL. It has been established that your grammatical skills are not as strong as your mathematical ones; it does need to be pointed out that MS is far from infallible as a guide.
- But I am scratching my head: are you seriously writing wiki pages using MS Word? --prime mover (talk) 18:35, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
- No, but before I contributed to anything, I used to prove statements for fun on paper. After learning how to type MS Word equations faster, I began working with that instead. I set up a two-column table with math on the left and reason on the right. I wasn't ever taught how to write proofs, so I did what seemed right. How do you know when to capitalize in a proof's line's reason? --LegendoftheGoldenAges (talk) 18:39, 3 October 2018 (EDT)
- A line is (part of) a sentence, so of you explain in the comments what you did, you don't capitalise it. It's like saying:
- $A = B$ Because of Fred's lemma
- which grates.
- A line is (part of) a sentence, so of you explain in the comments what you did, you don't capitalise it. It's like saying:
- or whatever. On the other hand, a result or definition is capitalised Just Because it Looks Good, so you have:
- $C = D$ Definition of Useful Object
- or whatever. On the other hand, a result or definition is capitalised Just Because it Looks Good, so you have:
- and so on. --prime mover (talk) 01:02, 4 October 2018 (EDT)
