I think this is true for free moules as well, but we need to establish that every basis of a module has the same number of elements.

Perhaps Isomorphism from R^n via n-Term Sequence might be seen as a proof for that? Since, otherwise, the same module would be isomorhic to both $R^n$ and $R^m$.
