I'm trying to gather together all the threads of polynomial theory at the moment and it's going very slowly because I'm having difficulty getting a conceptual grip on all the aspects of it.

One thing you might be able to do to help: would it be possible to stick with the same notation thoughout? Using $A$ for a ring may be de rigueur for French-speaking mathematics, but this website, in trying to be consistent, is standardising on $R$. --prime mover (talk) 13:01, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Sure. I'll try not to do edit too much on polynomials -- I'm just trying to do the background work to finish off Gauss' lemma with all due rigour (I don't think $A$ is so much a French standard as an Atiyah-MacDonald standard; the brevity of exposition in that book breaks half of the standards on this site) --Linus44 (talk) 13:30, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

You might also want to put citation links to that work so we have a record on each page that there is a source work to which it relates. This works in the direction of ensuring that refactoring tasks maintain the referential integrity of source citations - without such cited references pages are apt to become modified to as to compromise their relevance to pages that link to them. --prime mover (talk) 13:39, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

I don't know of a reference as such...I learnt it from an exercise in Atiyah-MacDonald. There must be a book that proves this, but I don't know of one. --Linus44 (talk) 15:39, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
