Welcome

Welcome to ProofWiki! Since you're new, you may want to check out the general help page. It's the best first stop to see how things are done (next to reading proofs, of course!). Please feel free to contribute to whichever area of mathematics interests you, either by adding new proofs, or fixing up existing ones. If you have any questions please feel free to contact one of the administrators, or post your question on the questions page.

Here are some useful pages to help get you started:

  • Community Portal - To see what needs to be done, and keep up to date with the community.
  • Recent Changes - To keep up with what's new, and what's being added.
  • Check out our house style if you are keen on contributing.
  • Main Page talk - This is where most of the main discussions regarding the direction of the site take place. If you have any ideas, please share them!

Cheers!

Editing style

Welcome to PW; I notice you are putting some interesting results up - that's good. When contributing further, please familiarise yourself with house style (see Help:Editing). Perhaps the most important part is linking to existing pages, in order to achieve a more-or-less coherent, insightful collection of proofs, rather than a mere database which doesn't yield any overview and is unreadable for persons not already familiar with a particular field. Thanks in advance. --Lord_Farin 05:55, 17 February 2012 (EST)

Thanks for the comment. Will do. At the moment the goal here is that I'm adding back story so that I can sort out the proof of Axiom of Choice implies Zorn's Lemma. Once I've done that I'll go back through the stuff I've added and try to link it properly. --David R. MacIver 11:07, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

What's wrong with Axiom of Choice implies Zorn's Lemma that it needs sorting out? I think it's excellent. --prime mover 14:12, 17 February 2012 (EST)
If I understand correctly there will be a second proof by means of Hartogs' Lemma; it's bona fide, I have a ref (lecture notes) which prove it in similar manner. DRMacIver took my point below. Don't worry ;) --Lord_Farin 17:32, 17 February 2012 (EST)
Please refrain from deleting proofs; the philosophy of the site is that multiple proofs are a virtue, and hence are desirable. Rather, put up an extra paragraph adding your proof (like I changed the page Hausdorff's Maximal Principle). In any case, significant deletion of material (outside of the User namespace) requires discussion first. I'm sure you weren't purposefully destroying material, so just consider this a nudge in the right direction. --Lord_Farin 06:52, 17 February 2012 (EST)

Apologies. I'll bear that in mind in future. --David R. MacIver 11:53, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
