Linguistic Note

The term axis of a tractrix was invented by $\mathsf{Pr} \infty \mathsf{fWiki}$ to provide a convenient means of referring to it (there appears to be none such in the literature).

As such, it is not generally expected to be seen in this context outside $\mathsf{Pr} \infty \mathsf{fWiki}$.
