Definition
A cantilever is a beam, or similar structural member, which is supported at one end only, and supports a load either along its length or at the free end.
A cantilever can be either horizontal or vertical.
Cantilever construction can be used in bridges, for example, and floors of buildings, where a large area can be spanned without obstructing supports.
