Let $\map f {Y, x}$ denote the regression of $Y$ on $X$.
The random variable $Y$ is known as the effect variable.
Also known as
The effect variable of a regression is also known as the regressand.
Other terms used for this concept are:
- the response variable
- the dependent variable.
However, both of these names are used in a wider context than regressions, and so are not endorsed on $\mathsf{Pr} \infty \mathsf{fWiki}$.
