Definition
Let $\map f x$ be a real function.
Let the values $y_1, y_2, \ldots, y_n$ of $f$ be known for $x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_n$ respectively of the independent variable $x$.
Extrapolation is the process of estimating the value of $f$ for a further value of $x$ lying outside the interval spanning $x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_n$.
