Definition
Let $A$ and $a$ be alleles.
Let $A$ and $a$ occur in a population in proportions $p$ and $q = 1 - p$.
Then the genotypes $AA$, $Aa$ and $aa$ are in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium when their proportions $p^2$, $2 p q$ and $q^2$.
