Definition

Let $B$ be a body of matter.

Let $P$ be a point inside $B$.

The atomic electric field $\mathbf E_{\text {atomic} }$ at $B$ is the electric field at $P$ caused by the atomic charge density due to the electric charges within the atoms that make up $B$.
