2008: David Nelson: The Penguin Dictionary of Mathematics (4th ed.):
- cybernetics
Mistake
- The subject was developed in 1946 by Norbert Wiener, who coined the name from the Greek word kuberne?te?s, meaning 'pilot' or 'steersman'.
Correction
The word should read kubernḗtēs (with or without the stress-accent on the first ē), but it seems that there was a glitch in the typesetting software.
This glitch does not appear in the second edition.
