Definition

Let $P$ be a point on the celestial sphere.

The galactic latitude of $P$ is the angular distance measured north or south of the galactic equator.

It ranges from:

$0 \degrees$ to $90 \degrees$ north
$0 \degrees$ to $90 \degrees$ south

where $0 \degrees$ is the galactic latitude of the galactic equator itself.

This is denoted $l$.
