Let $A$ and $B$ be points on a surface $S$.
A geodesic curve between $A$ and $B$ is the line between $A$ and $B$ completely embedded in $S$ whose length is the smallest of all lines between $A$ and $B$.

A geodesic curve can also be known just as a geodesic.
