A type $1$ lever is a lever such that the fulcrum is positioned between the effort and the load:
Examples
Pliers
A pair of pliers is an example of a type $1$ lever.
Its fulcrum is the hinge about which the arms rotate
The effort is the force applied by the user to the handles
The load is the reactive force applied by whatever is being gripped by the business end.
Scissors
A pair of scissors is an example of a type $1$ lever.
The effort is the force applied by the user to the handles.
The load is the reactive force applied by whatever is being cut at the point of contact of the blades.
