Definition
Consider a vector $\mathbf v$ embedded in a polar plane.
Let $\mathbf v$ be applied at a point $p$.
Let:
- $\mathbf v_r$ be the component of $\mathbf v$ in the direction of the radial coordinate of $p$
- $\mathbf v_\theta$ be the component of $\mathbf v$ in the direction of the angular coordinate of $p$
The component $\mathbf v_\theta$ is the transverse component of $\mathbf v$.
