Definition
A U-shaped distribution is a probability distribution over a finite range for which the frequency function has approximately equal local maxima at or near the ends of the range.
Examples
Cloud Cover
In many parts of the world, the proportion of the sky covered by cloud is an example of a U-shaped distribution.
That is, either completely clear days or completely overcast days are more common than partly cloudy days.
