I've fallen foul of situations where we need to use $\circ$ as Definition:Composition of Mappings for which it conventionally means. Of all the generally not-otherwise-used symbols on the $\LaTeX$ palette of symbols, it's (IMO) one of the less obtrusive ones. How this pans out concerning our drive towards general internal consistency I have not poked my head above the parapet to properly reconnoitre.
