Historical Note on Magnetism
The phenomenon known as magnetism was discussed by the Roman philosopher Lucretius in his De Rerum Natura in the $1$st century $\text {BCE}$.
He identifies certain mineral ores such as lodestone, which can attract nearby pieces of iron.
