Definition

A stellation of a polygon $P$ is a plane figure formed by extending the sides of $P$ until they meet.

The usual context for such a stellation is of a regular polygon such that the extended sides meet symmetrically.

A stellated polygon with $n$ sides can be referred to as a stellated $n$-gon.

Regular Stellated Polygon

A regular stellated polygon is a stellated polygon which is both equilateral and equiangular.

That is, in which all the sides are the same length, and all the vertices have the same angle:

Linguistic Note

The word stellation derives from the Latin stellātus, meaning starred, which in turn comes from the Latin stella, meaning star.
